Register and sign in to the Oxford Test of English

Register your Oxford Test of English account

You can use your Oxford Test of English account to book and manage test sessions for your test centre.

You need an invitation email to register your account. You will receive an invitation email at the end of the Test Centre Training module.

Important to note: Although Test Centres have a particular time zone (from Migration), you still need to set your own time zone on the new platform. This is to make sure tests run correctly and for the Start button to appear.

To register your account:

  1. Find your invitation email.
  2. Choose the link in the email or copy and paste it into your internet browser.
  3. Choose Staff Sign In. Sign in with your Oxford ID. Don’t have an Oxford ID? Choose Register Now.
You will already have an Oxford ID if you use:

  • Oxford Learn
  • Oxford Learner’s Bookshelf
  • Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionaries
  • Oxford Teacher’s Club

  1. Read and accept our Terms and Conditions.
  2. Read and accept our Privacy Policy.
  3. Complete the form. Most of your details are already entered for you.

Once you’re done, you will be signed into your Oxford Test of English account.

Sign in

You need to register your Oxford Test of English account before you can sign in.

To sign in to your Oxford Test of English account:

  1. Go to oxfordtestofenglish.oup.com.
  2. Choose Staff Sign in.
  3. Enter your Oxford ID username and password.
  4. Choose Sign in.
Enter your Oxford ID username and password > choose Sign in.

Problem with a username?

Your username is your email address.

Problem with a password?

If you’ve forgotten your password, you can create a new one.

To create a new password:

  1. Go to Forgotten your username or password?
  2. Enter your username. Choose Continue.
  3. Check your inbox for a password reset email.
  4. Choose the link in the email.
The link will work for 4 hours. If your link doesn’t work, go back to step 1.
  1. Enter a new password into both boxes.
  2. Choose Continue.
  3. Sign in with your username and your new password.
Choose Forgotten your username or password? to create a new password.

Problem with a password on test day?

You cannot create a new password using the Safe Exam Browser on your computer at the test centre.

You will need to request a new password using your personal device, like a mobile phone.

To create a new password on your personal device:

  1. Go to Forgotten your username or password? on your personal device.
  2. Enter your username. Choose Continue.
  3. Check your inbox for a password reset email.
  4. Choose the link in the email.
The link will work for 4 hours. If your link doesn’t work, go back to step 1.
  1. Enter a new password into both boxes.
  2. Choose Continue.
  3. Sign in on the test centre computer using your new password.

Change your details

To change your details on the Oxford Test of English website:

  1. Sign in at oxfordtestofenglish.oup.com.
  2. Choose My Organisation.
  3. Choose your profile icon.
  4. Choose Edit my account.
  5. Change your details.
  6. Choose Change my Oxford ID username or password and change your details, if needed.
  7. Choose Save.
You can change your:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Username – your username is your email address
  • Password

To change your details, choose My Organisation.
Choose your profile icon > select Edit my account.
You can change your First name and Last name.
You can also change your Oxford ID username and password.

Oxford Test of English results

In this section:

Download test takers’ results

We’ll send you an email when test results are available.

To view test takers’ results online:

  1. Go to oxfordtestofenglish.oup.com.
  2. Sign in.
  3. Choose Test Takers. A new window will open with a list of test takers.
  4. Find the test taker.
  5. Select the dropdown arrow next to Assign, then choose View Reports.
  6. Choose Download report card to view the test taker’s results for each module.
  7. Choose Download Certificate to download the test taker’s certificate, CEFR level, and their best results across all four modules.
Choose View Reports to see a test taker’s results.

How can test takers see their results?

Test takers can see their results by signing in to their Oxford Test of English account.

What will results look like?

For each module, test takers will receive a Module Report Card. This report card will include:

  • A standardized score
  • A Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level for the module
An example of a Module Report Card.

When a test taker has taken all four Oxford Test of English modules, they also receive:

  • A Certificate of Proficiency
  • An overall standardized score and CEFR level for the test
This overall level is an average of all four standardized module scores.

When will results be available?

  • Listening and Reading: On the same day
  • Speaking and Writing: 14 days after the test date
The 14-day period starts at midnight (UK time) after the test session ends.

How can test takers share their results with a third party?

Test takers can ask Oxford University Press to share their results with a third party.

To share results, test takers can send us an email at [email protected].

Manage Approved Test Centre staff

In this section:

Invite staff to join your Test Centre

These instructions explain how to set up your staff on the Oxford Test of English website.

You will need at least two Invigilators and one IT Representative.

Remember that each Invigilator will need to complete the Invigilator training.

Please note, the IT Representative will not need to be set up on the Oxford Test of English website but will need to complete the training.

This is because their role is to install the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) and check computer specifications and functionality before tests are run. They do not require access to the platform.

To invite a new staff member to join your Approved Test Centre:

  1. Sign in at oxfordtestofenglish.oup.com.
  2. Click your name in the top right.
  3. Choose My Organisation.
  4. Choose Staff.
  5. Choose Invite staff.
  1. Complete the form.
  2. Choose the staff member’s role from the dropdown list.
  1. Choose Invite a new user.
Important!

The staff member’s username should be their email address.

Check that their email address is correct, without any uppercase letters.

Your staff member will receive an email invitation to join your Test Centre:

Repeat these steps for all staff members at your Test Centre.

Check your list of staff to see who has been invited to join your Test Centre.

If a staff member has been invited to join your test centre but has not accepted the invitation and completed registration, you will see a grey symbol next to the staff member.
If a staff member has accepted an invitation and completed registration, you will see a green tick next to the staff member.

Add staff members to your Test Centre as a group

These instructions explain how to add a list of staff members to your Test Centre as a group.

You will need your staff members’ information in a .CSV or .TXT document with these column headings:

  • UserName
  • FirstName
  • LastName
  • EmailAddress
  • RoleName

To add a group of staff members at once:

  1. Choose Import Staff Members.
  1. Select:
    • Choose a file from your computer to upload your prepared .CSV or .TXT spreadsheet, or
    • Choose Download template to download a .CSV spreadsheet template. Add your staff members’ details.
  1. After you’ve uploaded your file, choose Import.

Your staff members will receive email invitations to join your Test Centre.

You’ll receive an email when the import is finished:

Change a staff member’s role

You can change your staff members’ roles to change what they can access.

To change a staff member’s role:

  1. Sign in at oxfordtestofenglish.oup.com.
  2. Click your name in the top right.
  3. Choose My Organisation.
  4. Choose Staff.
  5. Find the staff member.
  6. Click the staff member’s username.
  7. Choose Edit.
  8. Choose Role, then select the staff member’s new role using the dropdown arrows.
  9. Choose Save.

The Oxford Test of English Safe Exam Browser

In this section:

Use the Oxford Test of English Safe Exam Browser

The Oxford Test of English Safe Exam Browser stops test takers from using other websites or tools while they are taking the test.

You must use the Safe Exam Browser for all test sessions at your test centre.

For every computer you will use for testing, your IT Representative should:

  • Download the Oxford Test of English Safe Exam Browser
  • Install the Oxford Test of English Safe Exam Browser
  • Check the Oxford Test of English Safe Exam Browser

Your IT Representative must check the Safe Exam Browser on each computer in the test room before a test session.

Your IT Representative should be ready to troubleshoot the Safe Exam Browser during a test session.

Make sure your IT Representative has The Oxford Test of English Safe Exam Browser Instructions PDF document.

Exit the Oxford Test of English Safe Exam Browser

When all test takers in a test room have completed their tests, the Lead Invigilator will need to exit and close the Safe Exam Browser on all computers.

We will send you a password to exit the Safe Exam Browser. You should share this password with your Invigilators.

You should never share the secure password with test takers. This would affect the validity of the test at your test centre.

Invite test takers

In this section:

Invite test takers to your Test Centre

You must add test takers to your Test Centre before you can add them to a booked test session.

You need to know a test taker’s First name, Last name, and Email address to add them to your Test Centre.

You will not be able to assign test licences unless the test taker is registered.

To invite new test takers:

  1. Sign in at oxfordtestofenglish.oup.com.
  2. Choose your profile.
  3. Choose My Organisation.
  4. Choose Test Takers.
  5. Choose Invite Test Takers.
  6. Add the test taker’s First Name, Last name, and Email address.
  7. Choose Save.
  8. If you need to add another test taker to your Test Centre, choose Invite another test taker.
  9. When you’ve finished adding test takers, choose Done.

Your new test takers will receive an email inviting them to join your Test Centre.

Test takers must register using the link in their invitation email.

Check your list of test takers to see who has been invited to join your Test Centre.

If a test taker has been invited to join your test centre but has not accepted the invitation and completed registration, you will see a grey symbol next to their name.
If a test taker has accepted an invitation and registered their Oxford ID, you will see a green tick next to their name.

Next, the test taker must sign in to their account on oxfordtestofenglish.oup.com and follow the instructions on the screen to fully register with your organization. They should select Join the organization and complete their biodata.

If test takers fail to complete these steps, their details will not appear on your Test Centre account.

Add test takers to your Test Centre as a group

These instructions explain how to add a list of test takers to your Test Centre as a group.

You will need your test takers’ information in a .CSV or .TXT document with these column headings:

  • UserName
  • FirstName
  • LastName
  • EmailAddress
  • RoleName

To add a group of test takers at once:

  1. Choose Import Test Takers.
  2. Select:
    • Choose a file from your computer to upload your prepared .CSV or .TXT document, or

Update test sessions

In this section:

See a test session’s status

Test sessions at your test centre will have one of these statuses:

  • Draft
  • Booked
  • Complete
  • Cancelled

To see the statuses of your test sessions:

  1. Choose Sessions on the top of the screen.
  2. Choose the second Sessions tab.
  3. See the Status column to find session statuses.

Update a test session’s status

You can change the status of a test session on the Oxford Test of English website.

To change the status of a test session:

  1. Choose Sessions on the top of the screen.
  2. Choose the second Sessions tab.
  3. Find your test session.
  4. Choose Update next to your test session.
  5. Select the dropdown arrow under Status.
  6. Change the status of your test session.
Next to a session, choose Update
…then change the session’s status next to Status.

Find booked sessions

To filter for Booked sessions:

  1. Go to Sessions.
  2. Choose the filter icon next to Status.
  3. Write ‘Booked’, then select the Booked button.
  4. Choose Apply.

Your Booked sessions will appear at the top of the list.

Under Sessions, choose the filter icon next to Status
…then write ‘Booked’ > select the Booked button > choose Apply.

Create a test session

In this section:

Book a test session

These instructions explain how to book a test session at your Approved Test Centre.

You must book test sessions at least 7 days in advance.

To book your test session:

  1. Go to oxfordtestofenglish.oup.com.
  2. Choose Sign in.
  3. Choose Sessions at the top of the screen > choose the second Sessions tab.
  4. Choose Add a Session.
  5. Add the name of your session, the Start Date, End Date, and time.
Sessions should always start and end on the same day.
  1. Set Forced Logout to No.
  2. Set Send e-mail to Test Takers to:
    • Not required – no email will be sent
    • Immediately after assigned to learners – an email will be sent as soon as the session is booked
    • Days before – an email will be sent [number of days you choose] before the test session takes place
  3. Always set Auto Release Results to Yes. If set to No, results will not be released to you or your test takers. You will have to contact Customer Support to release them manually.
  4. Choose:
    • Save and Close to save the session as a Draft.
    • Save and Continue to continue setting up the session.
Choose Add a Session.

Choose tests for your test session

Next, you will choose the tests that test takers will take in your session.

To choose tests to include in your test session:

  1. Choose the tests from the Available Tests list. Select the box or the action icon next to a test to choose it.
    • You can choose from:
      • The Oxford Test of English modules:
        • Listening
        • Reading
        • Speaking
        • Writing
      • The Oxford Test of English for Schools modules:
        • Listening
        • Reading
        • Speaking
        • Writing
  2. Choose Continue to continue setting up the session.

Add test takers to your test session

Next, you will add test takers to your test session.

You must add test takers to your test centre before you can add them to your test session.

To add test takers to your test session:

  1. Choose the test taker who will take the test from the list.
  2. Choose the module the test taker will take from the dropdown in the Test column.
  3. Choose Enrol to add the test taker to the session.
  4. Choose Continue to continue setting up the session.

You will see a green banner confirming that you have added the Test Taker successfully.

Choose the test taker from the list.
Select the module from the dropdown for each test taker > choose Enrol.
You will see a green banner confirming that you have added the Test Taker successfully.

Confirm your test session details

After you have chosen a time, selected tests, and added test takers to your session, you will see a Summary of your test session.

  1. Check your test session details.
  2. Choose Complete to finish adding your test session as a Draft.
Choose Complete to add your test session as a draft.

You will see your new test session under Sessions as a Draft.

Choose a test room

Only registered test takers can be allocated to a room.

Please note: You must assign an Invigilator and all of the test takers to the test room before you start a session. Please complete both sections below.

To book a commercial test in a room, you must complete a full trial session on all computers within that room.

These instructions explain how to choose a test room for your test session.

To choose a test room:

  1. Choose Sessions on the top of the screen.
  2. Choose the second Sessions tab.
  3. Find your session.
You can use the filter icon in the Name column to find your session more quickly:

  • Choose the icon and write the name of your session
  • Select Enter on your keypad

  1. Choose Update next to your test session.
  2. Choose Test takers at the bottom of the window.
  3. Select all the test takers.
  4. Click Allocate a room.
  5. In the pop-up window, select the room.
  6. Choose Save.

The test room must have enough capacity to fit the number of test takers in the session.

For example, if the test room capacity is 5, you can add up to 5 test takers to the room.

In Session Details, you can select a room for your test session. The rooms you see here will have been set up for your Test Centre in advance by Oxford University Press.

Choose an invigilator

Next, you will need to select an Invigilator for your test session.

To choose an Invigilator:

  1. Choose Sessions from the menu bar.
  2. Choose the second Sessions tab.
  3. Find your session.
You can use the filter icon in the Name column to find your session more quickly:

  • Choose the icon and write the name of your session
  • Select Enter on your keypad

  1. Choose Update next to your test session.
  2. Choose Users to see the staff at your Test Centre.
  3. Select the check box in the far left column for the users who are invigilating the session.
  4. Choose Allocate a Test Room.
  5. Select the circle in the far left column for the desired test room.
  6. Choose Save.
  7. Choose Save again.
Choose the invigilators you want for your session > choose Allocate a Test Room > choose Save.

Manage a test session

If you see a notification pop up in the new platform on the top right, you must read it. If you don’t, it could affect your session.

In this section:

Change the date or time

Your test start date must be at least 7 days in the future.

Sessions should always start and end on the same day.

To change the date or time of a session if you are using the account that booked the session:

  1. Choose Sessions from the menu bar.
  2. Choose the second Sessions tab.
  3. Find your session.
You can use the filter icon in the Name column to find your session more quickly:

  • Choose the icon and write the name of your session
  • Select Enter on your keypad

  1. Select the dropdown arrow next to Update for your test session.
  2. Choose Manage.
  3. Choose the calendar icon under Start Date or End Date.
  4. Select a new date from the calendar.
  5. Use the arrows below the calendar to change the time of your test session.
  6. Choose Save and Close.
You can change your test session’s Start Date, End Date, and time.

To change the date or time or a session if you are not using the account that booked the session:

  1. Choose Test Takers from the menu bar.
  2. Choose Access Rules.
  3. Find the session.
  4. Choose Update.
  5. Change the dates.
  6. Choose Update Rule.

Add or remove test takers

You can add test takers up to 7 days before the test session starts.

To add or remove test takers from a session:

  1. Choose Sessions from the menu bar.
  2. Choose the second Sessions tab.
  3. Find your session.
You can use the filter icon in the Name column to find your session more quickly:

  • Choose the icon and write the name of your session
  • Select Enter on your keypad

  1. Select the dropdown arrow next to Update for your test session.
  2. Choose Manage. A window will open.
  3. Choose Save and Continue.
  4. Choose the type of tests the test taker will take and choose Continue.
  5. You will see a list of registered test takers.
    • Select Enrol to add a test taker.
    • Select Unenrol to remove a test taker.
  6. Use the dropdown arrow to select the test type for the test taker.
  7. Choose Continue.
  8. Choose Complete.

To add more than one module for a test taker, repeat these steps.

Select the dropdown arrow next to Update for your test session > choose Manage.
Select Enrol to add a test taker.
Select Unenrol to remove a test taker.

Change the test room

Only registered test takers can be allocated to a room.

To book a commercial test in a room, you must complete a full trial session on all computers within that room.

To change the test room for your session:

  1. Choose Sessions on the top of the screen.
  2. Choose the second Sessions tab.
  3. Find your session.
You can use the filter icon in the Name column to find your session more quickly:

  • Choose the icon and write the name of your session
  • Select Enter on your keypad

  1. Choose Update next to your test session.
  2. Choose Test takers at the bottom of the window.
  3. Select all the test takers.
  4. Click Unallocate Rooms.
  5. Click OK on the pop-up window.
  6. Select all test takers again.
  7. Click Allocate a Room.
  8. Select a new room for your test session.
  9. Choose Save.

The test room must have enough capacity to fit the number of test takers in the session.

For example, if the test room capacity is 5, you can add up to 5 test takers to the room.

In Session Details, you can select a room for your test session. The rooms you see here will have been set up for your Test Centre in advance by Oxford University Press.

Change the Invigilator

  3. Find your session.

  • Choose the icon and write the name of your session
  • Select Enter on your keypad

  1. Choose Update next to your test session.
  2. Choose Users to see the staff at your Test Centre.
  3. Select the Invigilators you want for your test session.
  4. Choose Save.
Select the invigilators you want for your test session > choose Save.

Change the type of test your test takers will take

To change the type of test your test takers will take:

  1. Choose Sessions from the menu bar.
  2. Choose the second Sessions tab.
  3. Find your session.
You can use the filter icon in the Name column to find your session more quickly:

  • Choose the icon and write the name of your session
  • Select Enter on your keypad

  1. Select the dropdown arrow next to Update for your test session.
  2. Choose Manage.
  3. Choose Save and Continue. A new window will open.
  4. In the Available Tests tab:
    • To add a type of test, choose the (+) symbol.
    • To remove a type of test, choose the (x) symbol.
In the Available Tests tab, choose the types of tests for your test session.
To see the types of tests confirmed for your session, choose Selected Tests.

Cancel a test session

You can only cancel a test session that already has test takers in it.

After you cancel a session, you can remove test takers. This will return their unused licences to your organisation.

To cancel a test session:

  1. Choose Sessions from the menu bar.
  2. Choose the second Sessions tab.
  3. Find your session.
You can use the filter icon in the Name column to find your session more quickly:

  • Choose the icon and write the name of your session
  • Select Enter on your keypad

  1. Choose Update for your session.
  2. Next to Status, select Cancelled.
  3. Choose Save.
Next to Status, write ‘Cancelled’ > choose Save.

View and buy licences

In this section:

View licences

You need licences to run test sessions at your test centre.

You can view your licences on the Oxford Test of English website.

To view licences:

  1. Sign in at oxfordtestofenglish.oup.com.
  2. Choose Licensing.
  3. Choose Packages to see credits purchased by your test centre.
    • Consumed credits have been taken by test takers.
    • Assigned credits are linked to a booked test session but have not been taken.
    • Available credits can be used for future test session bookings.
  4. Choose Credits to see information about individual credits.
In Licensing, choose Packages to see licences purchased by your test centre.
In Licensing, choose Credits to see information about individual credits.

Buy licences

You need licences to run test sessions at your test centre.

To buy licences:

  1. Sign in at oxfordtestofenglish.oup.com.
  2. Choose Licensing.
  3. Under Packages, choose Purchase Credits.

You can buy licences for these modules:
